All Web servers that handle credit cards should use SSL (secure socket layer) encrypted communications. While a secure server discusses sensitive credit card information with the customer, anyone eavesdropping on this electronic conversation (through any Internet computer) between browser and server will only see illegible data.
SSL certificate is a certificate which is installed on a secure server. It is used to identify the merchant using it and to encrypt the credit card details and other sensitive data.

A digital certificate is an electronic "passport" that authenticates a web site when doing business or other transactions on the Web. It is issued by a certification authority (viz Comodo, Verisign). It contains, amongst other things, the name,a serial number, expiration datesand the digital signature of the certification authority, so that a recipient can verify that the certificate is genuine. You can verify a digital certificate by clicking (or double-clicking) on the closed padlock that comes up at the bottom of the browser when doing business with a secure web site.
Secure Digital Certificates allow you to encrypt and digitally sign email and attachments keeping them secure and confidential:
8 Encrypt your emails to ensure that the message and attachments may only be read by the intended recipients.
8 Digitally Sign your emails to prove that the message and attachments originated from you and not someone masqu -erading as you.
8 Digitally Sign your emails to ensure that the message and attachments cannot be tampered with en route via the Int -ernet without the recipient being alerted to the tampering.
